Product is rated as #10 in category Wireless Earbuds
Aluminum miniature headphone cases fit perfectly in the ears and do not cause any discomfort, the same can be said about the “collar”, which after 10 minutes of listening to the headphones you completely cease to notice on the neck. Yes, headphones color the sound noticeably, but they do it competently, making the sound brighter and more emotional, without going over the edge of naturalness in the sound. It is noticeable that professionals who know their business worked on the sound. This kind of presentation is ideal for daily listening to music on your phone. I recommend buying the RHA MA650 Wireless headphones if you are looking for headphones for listening to music outside the home and want to get rid of annoying wires once and for all.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

Packaging

Headphones RHA MA650 Wireless are supplied in the company’s standard packing made of thick cardboard with a hinged cover. Under the transparent plastic casing under the cover, you can see the headphones lying on the foam pad.

Curiously, the manufacturer used disposable paper fuses in the new packaging design. Thus, you can be sure that no one took the headphones out of the box before you. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like that, and it feels great.

For a long time, I have noticed that RHA pays a lot of attention to packaging and what emotions it evokes in the consumer. It may sound like bullshit, but packaging experience plays an important role in shaping a consumer’s relationship with a product. And it is essential not only to make the packaging high-quality and beautiful but also to make the headphones pleasant to unpack, anticipating their sound. The element of tearing the paper seal is unusual and creates an additional positive emotional reaction to the headphones, similar to what we experience when the protective film is torn off a new phone screen.

Design

The RHA MA650 Wireless headphones are wireless in-ear headphones with a collar. Many people are surprised to look at this form factor because headphones are called wireless, and where the wires are all around.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

Indeed, the headphones are connected to the collar with short wires. However, this is a better technical solution than completely wireless models.

All the electronics and batteries are hidden in the “collar,” and these parts, although tiny, are still not small and light enough to make the ear cups invisible. The “collar” can accommodate much more capacious batteries, a more serious processor, and other necessary electronics. Also, the “collar” plays the role of a reliable retainer. With it, you will not lose your headphones.

Listeners unfamiliar with this type of headphone may feel that the collar will get in the way, rub the neck, and, in general, constantly irritating. Perhaps this is the case on cheap Chinese headphones, but all serious companies are very attentive to the materials from which the collar is made and the balance of weight inside it. RHA engineers calculated everything well: when you put on the headphones, the “collar” itself lies on the neck so that even when running, it is held securely, while it is almost not felt. And after 10 minutes of listening to headphones, you generally forget that something is on your neck. This is facilitated by the very soft and velvety covering of the collar, which complements your pleasure of wearing the headphones around your neck.

Significantly, the earbuds have received IPX4 certification, which means they are splash and sweat resistant. With these headphones, you can practice any sport without any fear and walk in the pouring rain. But you cannot completely immerse the headphones underwater.

Headphone housing

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

The headphone housing is made of aluminum alloy; there is no doubt about its reliability. The shape of the headphones is not accidental. It is called Aerophonic and is a proprietary RHA design that allows you to bring sound to your hearing with a minimum of distortion and reflections inside the acoustic chamber.

Pay attention to how compact the headphone case turned out to be. It became possible because all electronics and batteries are transferred to the “collar.” The earbuds have a very high ergonomics level and are completely imperceptible in the ears when listening to music.

For greater convenience, magnets are built into the headphones; they are attracted to each other. This is very convenient when you need to take them out of your ears for a while to talk to someone. You take out the ear cups, connect them, and let go. They will hang magnetically at your chest level so that they will not dangle in different directions while walking or running.

Microphone

The MA650 Wireless is equipped with a microphone located on the right earphone cable. The body is made of aluminum, and there are 3 fully rubberized control buttons on it.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

The quality of speech transmission is good. The interlocutor heard me clearly and distinctly during test calls. However, he noted that my voice was slightly muffled. This did not affect the intelligibility of speech transmission, but it slightly changed my timbre of voice. Therefore, the overall performance of the microphone is just good, but not great.

There are also 3 control buttons on the microphone unit. They are responsible for volume control, music control, and voice calls. All controls are standard; there are no differences from the control methods in other similar headphones.

For example, in music players, one press of the middle button is responsible for “start/stop” playback, two clicks include the next track, three clicks – the previous one.

Driver

The RHA MA650 Wireless headphones use a dynamic driver of their own design. The driver model, according to the internal classification, is 380.1.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

The company does not disclose any additional information about the driver’s design or the materials used.

I can only state that it works perfectly. I did not notice any distortions or other problems with the sound while listening.

The driver’s specifications are excellent, and it is capable of reproducing audio at 16Hz – 22kHz.

Wireless connection

RHA MA650 Wireless works with Bluetooth and supports major modern codecs: AAC, SBC, and aptX. The best music quality is obtained with the aptX codec, but the sound quality will be good even with the simpler SBC and AAC codecs.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

Wireless performance is good. I put my phone in the far corner of the apartment, and walked through all three rooms with headphones, went into the bathroom and kitchen. In most of the apartment, the signal remained absolutely stable. Only in the far corners of different rooms, the sound began to stutter, but the connection did not break. There was also an unstable reception in the bathroom, but in this case, there was one concrete wall and 2 plasterboard walls between the headphones and the phone. The distance between the headphones and the phone in a straight line was about 8 meters.

During normal use of headphones, i.e., when the phone was in my pocket or on the table, the signal always remained stable. I did not notice any interference or disconnections.

Ear cushions

The set comes with a vibrant set of ear pads: 8 pairs of silicone, 2 pairs of “herringbone” type, and 1 pair of foam.

RHA MA650 Wireless Earbuds: A Complete Review

The foam ear cushions worked well for me, and I used them most of my time testing the headphones. I want to note that there are several materials from which foam ear pads are made. The reference ear pads are those that, after being crumpled, do not unfold immediately, but within a few seconds. And it should take about 10 or more seconds to recover fully. These earpads will be as comfortable as possible and provide the best experience when listening to music. These are the ear pads that come with the MA650 Wireless.

Silicone ear cushions are also made of high-quality material. They are delightful to the touch and, with the correct size, they are not felt at all inside the ear. The silicone used in the production of ear pads is hypoallergenic, so it is suitable for absolutely all people.

Collar

The “collar” has a silicone body, bends in all directions, and inside does not have any moving parts or a metal rigid hoop that would hold its shape. Therefore, the headphones can be folded as you like, and the collar will not be damaged. Of course, when flexing, you need to keep the boundaries of reason.

The connector for charging the internal battery of the headphones has a USB-C format. This is a step into the future and a perfect move, especially for smartphone owners with the same connector, because the headphones can be charged with the same charging and the same wire. A trifle, but nice.

Be careful. The USB-C socket does not have a plug, so before connecting the wire, ensure that no debris gets inside to avoid shorting or damaging the connector.

On the “collar” itself, there is only one button. It turns on and off the headphones. You can also use it to enable pairing mode.

There is an NFC chip for instant pairing with phones equipped with the same chip on the left side.

Convenience of RHA MA650 Wireless headphones

I used the MA650 Wireless headphones every day for a week, both at home and outdoors. I am writing a review in early spring, there are snowdrifts outside the window, and the air temperature drops to -10 degrees at night, so I conducted street tests in winter clothes.

At home or in the office, headphones do not cause any inconvenience. The “collar” on the neck is not felt due to its low weight, good balance, and pleasant materials. You can wear it all day and remember about it only when you accidentally touch it with your hand, straightening your shirt or T-shirt. Conveniently, if you are tired of listening to music, you don’t have to take them off and don’t look for a place to put them away. It is enough just to magnet the cases together and leaves them hanging around your neck. They will not get lost, will not get in the way, dangling from side to side, and will be ready to go at any time.

On the street, the headphones also do not cause negative emotions, but the wires that connect the headphones to the “collar” are somewhat short for winter. If you use a scarf or very high collar on a jacket or sweater, you will sometimes need to adjust the wire to pull the earphone out of your ear. But the same operation has to be done with any wired headphones, so there is nothing wrong with that.

You get used to the remote control located on the unit with the microphone and the buttons quickly. It is enough to listen to music for one day, and you will automatically start pressing the buttons without hesitation. Errors will happen only in the first couple of days. Then you will click on the buttons without errors.

The MA650 wirelesses are IPX4 water and sweat resistant, which means they can be used for any sport or walk-in heavy snow or rain. I did a test run, ran for five minutes. Headphones are securely held on the neck and in the ears. They do not cause any inconvenience. And thanks to the signal’s high stability, you can take them with you to the gym, put the phone on the windowsill, and calmly do any exercises within a radius of 10 meters from it. The music will not be interrupted.

Full charging time is about 2 hours, continuous music playback time is stated at 12 hours. In practice, I got it a little less, on average, about 11 hours. This is an excellent result. With an average listening time of about 3 hours a day, the charge will last for 3-4 days.

The passive noise isolation of the headphones is at a good average level, in which you can listen to music without stress on ground public transport or while walking along a busy highway. In the subway, of course, you will have to increase the volume, but not much.

RHA MA650 Wireless headphones: Sound quality for Music Playback

The RHA MA650 Wireless headphones are designed for daily listening to music paired with your phone. This means that you will listen to streaming services or music in mp3 format in the overwhelming majority of cases.

It is for such conditions that the audio tuning of this model is ideal. It has a bright contrasting sound character. The low frequencies are raised, then a slight dip in the lower middle and a rise in the middle and upper-middle. The high frequencies are reproduced brightly and loudly, but they sound a little quieter than the average.

In general, the sound’s character turned out to be very pleasant, bright, and driving. This sound is ideal for listening to contemporary electronic music, rock, pop, or R&B. In general, any music other than classical or academic will sound pleasant and lively.

The headphone volume reserve is excellent. At maximum volume, it is hard to listen to headphones for a long time, very loud.

When listening, I noticed a peculiarity: the louder you make the headphones, the more detailed and powerful the sound becomes. I emphasize this not because it happens differently with other headphones, but with the MA650 Wireless, this effect is especially pronounced. For this reason, if you want to unleash your headphones’ full potential, you need to listen to them at or within medium volume levels. In this case, you will begin to hear the small details and nuances of the recording, the bass will be powerful and deep, and the mids will sound accented but pleasant and soft. However, if you set the volume of the headphones to values close to maximum, the mids will start to sound too bright and even harsh, so I advise you not to listen to the headphones at a tranquil volume level, the sound will be emotionless, but I do not advise you to output the headphones to a very loud mode either. Mids will begin to prevail over others significantly and will draw all the attention to themselves. According to my observations, the optimal volume level ranges from 25% to 75% of the headphone capability. In this range, they play perfectly for the mobile model.

During testing, I noticed that white noise was constantly heard in the headphones’ background during operation. It is not loud, and you can hear it only if it is hushed around you. If you start listening to music, white noise becomes impossible to hear even at a deficient volume. This is not a minus and does not affect the quality of sound reproduction, but to be fair, I should have noted this in the review.

Low frequencies

Bass headphones play out clearly, deeply, and, if possible, honestly. Of course, the low frequencies of the headphones are accentuated, but this amplification is moderate, and it does not create bass where there is none and cannot be. But on the other hand, if bass appeared in music, you will hear it in full: voluminous, powerful, but without additional hum, as many bass headphones like to do.

Mid frequencies

Headphones love mids. They can reproduce them beautifully and serve them as the best dishes in a restaurant, which the chef is especially proud of. But you need to be able to eat such dishes, you should not pounce on them, like a person who has been eating bread and water for the last 3 days. First, you need to understand the aroma, then consider the texture and color, and then proceed to a measured and thorough tasting. It would help if you also listened to music in the MA650 Wireless. The headphones do not focus on the entire midrange. Still, those responsible for vocals and some live string instruments, so you need to listen to many music pieces of different genres to experience the headphones’ sound level fully. I liked it and let the mids sound embellished, but they make the sound juicy, bright, and tasty.

High frequencies

Headphones cope with high frequencies without difficulty. They sound bright, transparent, and clean. Of course, to the extent that wireless technology can do it. Comparing high-frequency transparency to wired models is not entirely fair; however, the MA650 Wireless’s achievement is that they sound as good as necessary for a pleasant listening experience, no more, no less.
