Razer Kraken 7.1 Gaming Headphone: A Complete Review
- Good sound quality;
- Great microphone;
- Comfortable design, you put on and forget that there are headphones on your head;
- Convenient sound tuning program;
- Not suitable for all genres of music, there is not always enough high frequencies;
- There is no volume control on the headphones themselves;
The Razer Kraken 7.1 gaming headset comes to the rescue in such cases. This is not just a pair of headphones at a very reasonable price. It is, above all, a source of an excellent and unique sound.
Appearance and Design
Great appearance. All equipment is decorated with a beautiful manufacturer’s logo. Materials pleasant to the touch, a dense headband, and a quite reasonable price of 65.44 dollars, and you get a device that adapts itself when connected to any OS, be it Win or Mac.
Modern games sometimes require complete immersion in what is happening. One could buy an expensive stereo system with many wires and at an exorbitant price, but it would often be turned off or worked at its minimum. This is because my neighbors would be against such loud sounds, and the area of my apartment does not allow me to arrange all the speakers so that I get real sound in 7.1 formats at the output. Razer Kraken 7.1 is a great way to solve this problem. Just two speakers, a virtual subwoofer program are enough, and you can enjoy the sounds of a game, a movie, or just your favorite artist.
Razer’s natural evolution
I bought a Razer Tiamat, 7.1 earbuds last spring, and of course, I enjoyed their work very much. But, unfortunately, their price upset me – almost 116.58 dollars. And besides, excellent 5.1 sound was their limit. We could only dream about 7.1! Neither the sound card nor the motherboard upgrades solved this problem. It was almost possible to come close to the fact that the headphones sounded almost natural and realistic sound, but still, against the background of competitors. Especially if you know and feel the difference in the sound of musical pieces. And now Razer is launching its new product on the market, which is said to be able to immerse you in 7.1 sound easily, and the priority of the Razer Kraken 7.1 model turned out to be not only high-quality sound but also the price, which has been halved compared to the previous model. Of course, you need to understand that sounding 7.
Turn your Razer Kraken 7.1 into your PC and experience the difference in your favorite tracks. Or, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of modern games. First-person shooters cannot be felt without the sounds surrounding you, which can easily be achieved by the Razer Kraken 7.1. Now, you can’t just plug in a 7.1 Surround Sound transmission and expect a difference. I found that I could not tear myself away from Metro: Last Light, Dead Space 3, or Battlefield 3. It was just enchanting, fantastic, and unique. You seem to be in the middle of what is happening, which is very important to play with feeling and passion. However, this is equally important if you watch a concert of your favorite artist or just watch a movie with a very intense plot.
If someone tells you that the Razer Kraken 7.1 sounds awful, don’t believe it. Just put these headphones on your head and close your eyes, listening to their speakers’ sounds, and all doubts will disappear by themselves.
The earbuds provide clear, sound-rich audio reproduction in which no sound can be missed.
Need more bass? Setting the bass boost allows you to tune lower frequencies. Want to customize your microphone? The virtual microphone sensitivity slider’s movements allow you to adjust the voice input parameters and adjust the noise-canceling sensitivity.
Tired of bass and words, just one movement of the equalizer slider, and here is the solo violin part in all its glory and just for you!
The digital microphone is neatly hidden in the left earpiece. This is a simple yet great solution to improve the ergonomics of the earbuds. The microphone sits on a gooseneck so you can customize it to your liking, and a tiny mute button sits right on the edge of the microphone, illuminated by a small LED—an excellent and beautiful solution. Lights up, it means you are on air, off, it means the microphone is disabled. Everything is simple and convenient.
Very high-quality materials for finishing both the headband, which fits perfectly on your head and does not interfere with you at all, and the ear cups.
Cups should be a serenade to their quality and functionality. Very comfortable ear pads, the ears in them absolutely do not strain, do not overheat, and you absolutely do not notice them. At the same time, they fit very tightly on the ears and almost completely block all sounds coming from outside.
Of course, praises can be sung endlessly, but the Razer Kraken 7.1 has its drawbacks. These are primarily wires that tend to get tangled or interfere with your movement.
The second problem I encountered was the sound of my voice through the microphone. My friends didn’t recognize me. It was as if I was sitting in the center of a wasp nest, and my voice sounded against the background of a huge buzz. All software requires some getting used to and the ability to save individual settings.
Another issue was with Win XP SP3 OS compatibility. This operating system was constantly adjusting my sound setting, and it turned out that the right cup sounded stronger than the left one, which was annoying. However, all the disadvantages are more likely software flaws than the functioning of the Razer Kraken 7.1.
It should also be borne in mind that these are gaming headphones designed primarily for effective reproduction of special effects and low frequencies, with which they cope perfectly. But because of the emphasis on low frequencies, the highs and mids were muted and pushed into the background. This is not felt in games and films, but when listening to high-quality music, this drawback cannot be overlooked.
Is it possible to pay 65.44 dollars for the Razer Kraken 7.1? Oh sure. Despite all the minor drawbacks, and if you are not afraid of the wires, which sometimes get tangled, you should definitely get these headphones. Because they will easily replace all those stereo systems to which you are already accustomed and which annoy your neighbors so much.
Once you experience the 7.1 sound performance of the Razer Kraken 7.1, you will definitely decide to purchase them. Moreover, the prices for headphones with similar-sounding from competitors of Razer are much more expensive!
