10/10 (Expert Score)
Product is rated as #1 in category Wireless Headphones
Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) are suitable for those who like on-ear models - they are light enough, fit well on the head, and are adjustable. It is also worth praising the sound quality and high battery life of the device. However, the Philips TAPH805BK also has disadvantages: even though the headphones are connected via Bluetooth 5.0, they do not support the AptX codec. Also, control using the touch panel will not be convenient for everyone - it would be easier to turn on the noise reduction using a mobile application or a mechanical button.

Design: Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) Wireless Headphones

The Philips TAPH805BK headphones have a classic design – a full-size model with large, soft ear cushions that completely cover your ears. The headband is made of dense plastic. There is a small eco-leather insert in the center so that the headphones sit comfortably on the head. The rim itself can be adjusted so that people of different sizes can use the gadget.

The ear cushions are attached to the headband with movable hinges to be folded in two directions. When folded, the earbuds fit into the case and take up very little space. By the way, the case is included in the kit: it is a durable silicone case with a zipper with a soft coating and a pocket for wires inside – it will be quite safe and comfortable to wear the headphones in it.

On the right cup is the only mechanical joystick button used to turn on the device and control tracks. Next to it are two light indicators, which can be used to determine the headphones’ operating mode and the battery charge level (green – the battery is charged, red – requires recharging).

Sound: Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) Wireless Headphones

Sound assessment is a very subjective thing, as it depends on the listener. But we think the Philips TAPH805BK sound more than decent. Largely because they are equipped with high-quality speakers: 40 mm drivers with neodymium magnets, support for an extended frequency range of 7 Hz-40 GHz, and a sensitivity of 90 dB.

Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) Wireless Headphones

Regardless of the genre of music, the headphones deliver rich and balanced sound. We listened to a test playlist on them, which includes completely different tracks. In the melodic Arcade – Duncan Laurence, the high frequencies with the instrumental part were clearly audible, and the soft bass did not overlap the vocal track. In the classic composition Canon in D Major, Johann Pachelbel was pleasantly surprised by the detail of sound across the entire frequency spectrum. In Highway to Hell – AC / DC, there was a little lack of bass, but the surround sound pleased.

Additional functions: Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) Wireless Headphones

As we said, the headphones support active noise cancellation – and completely isolating the user from external sounds. While you are wearing headphones, you will not even hear the clatter of the keyboard or colleagues’ voices, not to mention the noise of the subway or a busy street. The headset’s very design has good noise isolation, and if you add ANC to this, then the sounds from the outside do not have a chance at all.

To prevent such noise reduction from becoming dangerous, you can turn it off – then you will more or less hear the surrounding sounds. To do this, you need to touch the central part of the right earphone – there is a touch panel on its outer side. With the help of touches, you can increase or decrease the volume: to do this, you need to swipe up or down on the cup. And if you close the earphone with your palm, the voice assistant starts on the smartphone.

We had no problems with volume control, but enabling and disabling ANC is inconvenient. It is difficult to hit the very area of the touch panel, which is responsible for noise reduction, and as a result, you either accidentally turn on the assistant or change the volume.

Using the mechanical button is much easier, but it is only responsible for switching tracks and making calls. If you press the joystick on the right cup once, the track will pause or start playback, and by double pressing, you can switch between calls. By moving the button up / down, you will scroll through the music in the playlist.

Philips TAPH805BK also has a built-in microphone with echo cancellation during conversations.

Autonomy: Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) Wireless Headphones

The headphones have a record autonomy – with active noise cancellation turned on, they will work 25 hours in playback mode, and without noise reduction – all 30. At the same time, it takes only 2 hours to charge fully. Thanks to Rapid Charge and Quick Charge technology, five minutes from the outlet will be enough to recharge for 2 hours of music playback, and 15 minutes for 6 hours.

Conclusion: Should you buy Philips TAPH805BK?

Philips TAPH805BK (PH805) is suitable for those who like on-ear models – they are light enough, fit well on the head, and are adjustable. It is also worth praising the sound quality and high battery life of the device. However, the Philips TAPH805BK also has disadvantages: even though the headphones are connected via Bluetooth 5.0, they do not support the AptX codec. Also, control using the touch panel will not be convenient for everyone – it would be easier to turn on the noise reduction using a mobile application or a mechanical button.
