JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds: A Complete Review
JBL Tune 120TWS ($99.95 – fully wireless headphones with high-quality sound (2019). The model provides a fairly comfortable autonomy (4 hours on a single charge – the average for the segment) and high-quality sound.
There is an emphasis on low frequencies, but without going too far. For true wireless headphones, this model gives a fairly clean and detailed sound. In addition to high-quality bass, the treble is that the treble is not trimmed but not cut. Balanced handwriting. For the design of the JBL Tune 120TWS even received the prestigious Reddot Awards 2019. The headphones look great.

What is in the box?: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
The box, as expected, is made in the characteristic colors of JBL. White and orange dominate. Everything is neatly and beautifully packed. What’s inside? The manufacturer does not really pamper us. In addition to the headphones, we have a case, a short cable for charging, and two additional pairs of interchangeable ear pads.
The kit does not have an adapter to the outlet to charge the JBL Tune 120 TWS without additional accessories for complete happiness. However, we can use the charger, which is bundled with any modern smartphone.

Design and build quality: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
In terms of design, I like everything about the Tune 120 TWS. We have slightly rounded shapes of the cases, a small diode that informs about the state of the phone, and a small physical control button.
On the right earphone, you can receive calls, turn on and pause music, and call the Google Assistant. On the left, on the other hand, this key is used to switch between songs. The solution is user-friendly and ergonomic. JBL Tune 120 TWSise is also equipped with a microphone for phone calls and magnetic outputs for connecting to a case – charger.
As for artistry, I have no complaints. However, everything here is made mainly of plastic. However, it is of very high quality, and even with strong pressure, it does not creak. It is also worth adding that the JBL Tune 120 TWS wireless headphones are very lightweight, so you will not have problems with a feeling of heaviness in your ears even after prolonged use. But, there are problems with ergonomics. Occasionally the body sticks neatly out of your ear.
The second element of this audio equipment is a case – charger. It is convenient to use, as there is where to hide the headphones. They stick to the inside of the case due to magnetic coupling, and at the same time, they can be recharged. The case itself is somewhat similar to the headset in design. The shape is round and rather small – made of high-quality plastic.
On the front panel, three LEDs are informing about the charging status of the case. Below there is only a Micro-USB port for charging, without additional outputs or other add-ons.

Communication and Connection: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
We get the Bluetooth 4.2 module, and I want to honestly say that until now, similar solutions have caused communication problems, especially when connected. In the JBL Tune 120 TWS, the first pairing process takes a second. I turn on both earphones, and all the magic happens on its own. I have no complaints about the quality of wireless communications. It never happened that during tests, the devices suddenly shut down, or another similar problem occurred.
As for the quality and audibility of voices during conversations, here it is standard. The interlocutor heard me well, although a microphone also transmitted the sounds of the surroundings.
Sound quality: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
Small wireless devices with Bluetooth connectivity are often not able to satisfy all the needs of audiophiles. However, JBL’s Tune 120 TWS is definitely not disappointing. Of course, higher quality can be obtained from headphones with cable and better attenuation of ambient sounds.
JBL Tune 120 TWS provides massive bass, dry and tenacious. Low levels give us a lot of warmth and splendor in rock compositions. And although the cello does not convey a huge amount of detail, other instruments carry a rich and magnificent sound. The rest of the bottoms are quite universal to cope with almost any genre.
The upper midpoints are slightly aligned and relatively dynamic. And while it offers a fun sound signature, I lack a bit of expansiveness. At the same time, we have a clear sound for wireless headphones in this price range. For example, the acoustic guitar tones are well separated, especially when they penetrate higher frequencies.
You will not get incredible transparency when listening to strings in the upper range. Nevertheless, some dazzling instruments in pop tracks are still present. Tall ones are not impressive, but they are sparing for any ears.
I think those who love high-quality music in the mobile edition will love the Tune 120. First of all, due to the good quality of the music being played. Here we don’t have a hint of metal sound when the bass is at a very decent level. The disadvantage is the average suppression of ambient noise.
Autonomy: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
In fact, these fully wireless headphones have two types of batteries. The first is implemented in headphones, the second in the charger case. According to the manufacturer, the first type allows us to listen to music for 4 hours. Nevertheless, the case extends this time by another 12 hours, which is 16 hours of continuous listening to music.
I got 13 hours in practice, which is 3 hours, from the headphones themselves and 10 from the case. I think, despite the manufacturer’s specifications, the result is at least excellent. Provided that we will use the equipment, for example, we can only charge once a week on the way to work or study.
I add that the cover recharges the headphones pretty quickly. Only a few minutes will provide us with 40 minutes. Listening to your favorite tunes. This is an excellent result. The case is charged using a Micro-USB cable for 2 hours, and for this, the simplest charging unit is enough.
Conclusion: JBL Tune 120TWS Truly Wireless in-Ear Earbuds
The JBL Tune 120 TWS is a perfect device for the money, although not perfect. On the other hand, we have to pay $99.95 for these headphones, which is a lot.
Is it worth buying? If you are not very worried about the highest sound quality, I think you should consider the Tune 120 TWS and similar offers from Xiaomi or Tronsmart.
