Jabra Elite 65t Earbuds: A Complete Review
The trend of abandoning the 3.5 mm headphone jack in smartphones is increasingly heating up the wireless audio market, thereby pushing manufacturers to produce more such devices. Jabra did not stand aside and released several completely wireless headphones this year, including the Jabra Elite 65t, which we will meet today.
Contents of delivery
When opening the box, the Jabra Elite 65t welcomes under the proud inscription “Welcome to excellent sound”, you immediately understand that the headphones are made with a greater bias in the musical direction than previous Jabra models of this class.
In addition to the headset itself, the box contains a charging case, a micro USB charging cable, packed like tablets, three sets of nozzles of different sizes and instructions. Everything is folded neatly and in its departments, although the kit is not large, it looks stylish and restrained.
Design by Jabra Elite 65t
Although the name of the model has the word Elite, the design is nothing but plastic. For me, this seemed even a plus, since this material is easier and does not suffer as much as it falls, in addition, its use can affect the Bluetooth signal.
The headphones are almost weightless, the weight of the left is 5.8 grams, but the right one will be heavier due to the larger filling – 6.5 grams.
The body has a P-shaped design with an anatomical shape on the side of the emitters, and the entire image is complemented by holes for four microphones. In general, the headphones look futuristic and versatile.
Due to the small size of the body, the Jabra Elite 65t fits perfectly into the auricle and does not go beyond it, for example, like the Bose SoundSport Free, so you do not look like an alien with antennas in your ears.
On each of the headphones, there are LEDs that display the status of the connection and battery charging. Together with them on the Jabra Elite 65t are located control buttons. The button on the left is divided into two clicks, with which you can adjust the volume, switch tracks and find out the status of the battery, but the right one has only one click, which you can turn on / off the headphones, receive a call, stop and continue playing, and activate HearThrough mode. Management seemed a little confusing to me, but over time you get used to it.
The charging case is made in the form of a small box with rounded corners and the same top cover. It is charged via the micro USB connector, above which the charging status indicator is located.
The headphones themselves are placed in special cells, but it was frustrating that they do not have special magnets with which they would be fixed more securely. In fact, only the cover of the case holds them and, if dropped, there is a risk that the headphones will fly out.
Connection
The first connection procedure is not complicated and is similar to that in other devices with Bluetooth. But it is worth noting that it is better to pair through the Sound + proprietary application, since in addition to the step-by-step illustrated instructions, it also defines the model of headphones, and in case of connection problems it will give a hint for a solution. If the Jabra Elite 65t had a built-in NFC module, then this would simplify the connection procedure with those devices that support it.
After completing the initial setup, the headphones will automatically connect to the smartphone, it will be enough to get them from the charging case.
Jabra Elite 65t uses Bluetooth 5.0 protocol, its use allowed to achieve a good communication range and at the same time optimize power consumption. For all the testing time, the sound cut off only two times, and then for a split second. This happened on the left earphone, perhaps the fault was that the headset was built according to the scheme: the right lead, the left follower. This is due to a connection conflict, but given that the problem has surfaced only a few times, this is hardly a disadvantage. As for the stability of the connection, here the Jabra Elite 65t shows an excellent result.
Ease of use
As mentioned above, the Jabra Elite 65t sits perfectly in the auricle, and thanks to the in-ear mount, the headphones have good passive noise reduction.
With daily use, the headphones showed themselves on the excellent side, there was no discomfort from them for long listening or during sports. After a few minutes, you get used to the low weight of the device and forget that it is in your ears. It is especially pleasant that there is no cable in the cable design and there is nothing to cling to clothes, and also it does not need to be untangled before use. I just took the headphones out of the case, stuck it in my ear, turned it and enjoy the music. By the way, in the manufacturer’s instructions, he drew a diagram of the convenient and correct location of the headphones in the ear, according to which the microphones should look down.
If you take out one of the headphones while listening, the playback will pause; when you return, it continues again, which is very convenient.
Also, the Jabra Elite 65t provides a mode of operation as a wireless headset, you can use only the right earphone and leave the left in the case.
I liked that the manufacturer did not forget about protection against moisture and dust, the Jabra Elite 65t is certified according to the IP55 standard. This level will allow you not to worry about headphones when walking in the rain or during active physical exertion.
Sound Jabra Elite 65t
For sound in the Jabra Elite 65t are responsible for one dynamic emitter in each earphone. The frequency range is standard for this type of device and is 20-20000 Hz. The scene turned out to be quite wide and detailed, the sound is pleasant and not annoying, but for me personally the upper-frequency range was slightly overestimated, however, this was fixed in the Sound + proprietary application. At the same time, you do not expect much power from such small headphones, but the Jabra Elite 65t has a good volume margin and even at maximum there is no distortion, the sound is always clear.
Sound + is worth talking about separately. With it, you can significantly change the sound of the headphones. There are five equalizer sliders, each of which is responsible for its own range, if you want more bass, drag the Bass slider up, less down, and for those who do not want to bother with this, there are six preset settings.
In addition to editing sound in the application, you can activate the useful HearThrough function, which allows you to listen to music and at the same time hear what is happening around. It will be useful for jogging and cycling around the city.
Jabra Elite 65t is equipped with an active noise reduction system, it works very well and damps almost everything around, especially if you choose the right nozzles. I was lucky and the complete ear pads came up perfectly, but if it happens that none of the complete sets fits, then you can use the nozzles from other headphones.
Using the Jabra Elite 65t as a headset also showed a good result. Thanks to the system of 4 microphones, the interlocutor clearly heard me, while I was in a noisy environment, and, of course, I could also hear him well.
Autonomy
In general, the declared operating time of the Jabra Elite 65t was confirmed. They played around five hours, and it turned out to charge them from the case two and a half times. I really liked the opportunity to charge the headphones for 1.5 hours in 15 minutes. The headphone case took about 2 hours to charge.
