Lenovo New VR700 Headset Launches in China

It’s been a while since Lenovo contributed to anything in the VR market space, since 2019. After a long phase of silence and abstinence, the consumer electronic company is back in a different dimension following its latest teaser in a promo poster image released a few days ago, Monday, August 11.

As anticipated, the announcement and launching of the Lenovo Legion VR700 happened on Thursday, August 18 in China. The specs of the latest Lenovo Legion VR700 are similar to that of the Meta Quest 2 released in October 2020 about two years ago.

The promo image released earlier by Lenovo didn’t reveal much detail about this new headset but some key technical details could be seen from the cover image that was released along with an inscription written in Chinese. Much of these details have been confirmed following the launch. The Lenovo’s new glasses include the XR2 Qualcomm processor which specifies that the headset is wireless, four integrated cameras for spatial tracking, and RGB LC display with 4K resolution. The headset is similar to Qualcomm’s Quest 2 in these respects. The head mount’s back is where the battery is mounted.

The Legion VR700 has advertised possesses a “4K RealRGB” display technology which symbolizes the presence of a “high” refresh rate, 6DoF head-tracking, and the “iQUT 2.0 standard,” to simulate the experience of a big-screen TV.

Therefore, in addition to supporting fully immersive games, the VR700 will also be able to broadcast content. The Legion was launched at approximately £430 compared to the Quest 2 of 238GB model which is currently being sold at £549

From the launch, it is confirmed that Lenovo is working closely with the chipset manufacturer via Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces platform that assists with extended reality (XR) hardware and software

The unique specifications of the Lenovo Legion VR700 headset are summarised below

  • 3664 x 1920 pixel LCD screen
  • 93° field of view
  • Internal tracking 6 degrees of freedom
  • 72/90Hz
  • 8 GB RAM
  • Snapdragon XR2 processor
  • 256 GB of storage
  • Only 25 games for launch (including Angry Birds VR, Arizona Sunshine, and Fruit Ninja VR).
